3Com Corporation OS/2 Installation Notes OS/2 WARP CONNECT WITH IBM PEER FOR OS/2 NOTE: The following instructions assumes the following: 1. The user has the CD-Version of OS/2 WARP 2. The user has not installed OS/2 WARP. 2. The user will run the Easy Installation setup. 3. The user will install OS/2 WARP on C drive 4. The user has a floppy drive designated as drive A. 1. Install OS/2 WARP Connect (refer to OS/2 WARP manual). 2. When a "Networking Support" box appears asking "Do you want to install networking support," highlight YES and click on OK. 3. Under the "IBM Peer for OS/2," highlight the line "Yes, install OS/2 Peer" and click on OK. 4. Under the "Specify Workstation Name" box, enter the workstation name and description and click on OK. 5. Under the "Domain name" box, enter the appropriate domain name for the network (default is IBMPEER) and click on OK. 6. Under the "Novell Netware Client for OS/2" box, highlight "No, do not install" and click on OK. 7. Under the "Internet" box, choose Yes or No and click on OK. 8. When the "Select Network Adapter box appears," click on "Other adapter" at the bottom of the box. 9. Insert the Etherdisk into diskette drive. 10. At the "Network Adapter Driver Disk" box, enter A:\NDIS\OS2 at the "File Location" box and click on OK. 11. At the "Drivers Found" box, verify that the 3Com Etherlink III PCMCIA OS/2 is highlighted. Otherwise, click on cancel and repeat step 10. Highlight "Ethernet" in the "Type of LAN" box and click on OK. 12. Under the "Select Network Adapter" box, click on Settings. 13. Under the "ISA Network Adapter Software Configuration," highlight the "Network adapter address" line and click on Change. 14. Under the "Modify Parameter" box, type in the network adapter address located on the adapter e.g. 0020AF123456 and click on OK. 15. Under the "ISA Network Adapter Software Configuration," click on OK. 16. Follow the on screen instructions to complete the installation. OS/2 WARP CONNECT WITH NETWARE REQUESTER 1. Start the installation of OS/2 WARP Connect (refer to OS/2 WARP manual). 2. When the "Networking Support" box appears asking "Do you want to install networking support" highlight NO and click on OK. 3. After OS/2 is installed, open up an OS/2 window and type "MD NETWARE" at the [C:\] prompt and then type in "CD NETWARE" . 4. Insert the Etherdisk into the floppy drive. 5. Type in "COPY A:\NETWARE\ODI\3C589.SYS" at the [C:\NETWARE] prompt. 6. Changed drive to the CD Rom drive and type "PRODINST." 7. Highlight Netware under the Utilities box and click on Install. 8. Click on "Installation" under the Netware Workstation for OS/2 Installation Utility box and then click on "Requester on Workstation..." 9. Choose the default target directory (the default is C:\Netware) and verify that the Source drive is the drive letter of the CD Rom drive and click on OK. 10. Highlight "Edit CONFIG.SYS and Copy All Files..." under the Requester Installation box and click on OK. 11. Type in "3C589.SYS" in the box under the "Choose from the list or type in the drivername:" line. Verify that the "Do NOT upgrade the currently installed LAN driver" line is not highlighted and click on continue. 12. Highlight On or Off under the "Step 2 - Choose Netware Support for DOS and Windows Application" box and click on Continue. 13. Choose whether to install SPX support or Netbios (refer to the WARP Manual) under the "Step 3 - Choose Optional Protocols" box and click on Save. 14. Verify that "C:\CONFIG.SYS" is entered in the box after the "Save File as:" line in the "Save Changes to CONFIG.SYS" box and click on OK. 15. Click on Copy under the "Copy Requester Files" box. 16. Click on Cancel under the "Copy ODI LAN Driver Files" box. 17. If a there is an existing functional NET.CFG file for the adapter, verify that it is located in the root directory of the hard drive. Shut down the system and reboot. If there is not an existing NET.CFG file in the root directory of the hard drive, click on Configuration under the "Netware Workstation for OS/2 Installation Utility" box and highlight "This workstation..." 18. Verify that "C:\NET.CFG" is entered in the box under the "Default Location for NET.CFG File:" line and click on Edit. 19. The following is a sample NET.CFG file and may not be appropriate for the existing network (refer to the WARP manual or the system network administrator for specific information relevant to the existing network): max tasks = 60 show dots = on file handles = 180 Link Support Max Boards 4 Buffers 8 1500 MemPool 4096 LINK DRIVER 3C589 Frame Ethernet_802.2 Frame Ethernet_802.3 Frame Ethernet_snap Frame Ethernet_II 20. Once the appropriate lines for the network are entered under the "Current NET.CFG File Contents" box, click on save and follow the on screen direction. OS/2 WARP CONNECT WITH IBM PEER FOR OS/2 AND NETWARE REQUESTER 1. Start the installation OS/2 WARP Connect (refer to OS/2 WARP manual). 2. When the "Networking Support" box appears asking "Do you want to install networking support," highlight YES and click on OK. 3. Highlight "Yes, install OS/2 Peer" under the "IBM Peer for OS/2" box and click OK. 4. Type in a unique name and description of the worksation under the "Specify Workstation Name" box and click on OK. 5. Enter the Domain name under the "Domain Name" box (the default is IBMPEERS) and click on OK. 6. Highlight "Yes, install" under the "Novell Netware Client for OS/2" box and click on OK. 7. Highlight Yes or NO for TCP/IP under the "Internet" box and click on OK. 8. Click on Change adapter under the "Select Network Adapter" box. 9. Click on Other adapter under the "Select Network Adapter" box. 10. Insert the Etherdisk in the floppy drive. 11. Type in "a:\ndis\os2" in the "File Location" box and click on OK. 12. Verify that "3Com Etherlink III PC Card for OS/2" is highlighted under the "Drivers Found" box. Highlight "Ethernet" under the "Type of LAN:" and click on OK 13. Verify that the "3Com Etherlink III PC Card OS/2" is highlighted under the "Select Network Adapter" box and click on "Settings." 14. Read the warning message under the "OS/2 Warp Connect Install" box and click on OK. 15. Highlight "Network adapter address" under the "ISA Network Adapter Software Confiuration" box and click on Change. 16. Type in the Ethernet Address located on the adapter e.g. EA=0020AFXXXXXX and click on OK. 17. Click on OK under the "ISA Network Adapter Software Configuration" box. 18. Click on OK under the "Ready to Install" box. 19. OS/2 will install all the necessary files and then reboot the system.
